Paul Angelides has been working out of New York City area as a forensic engineering consultant for more than 30 years, conducting forensic examinations of building structures and systems. Outside of his work, Paul Angelides is an amateur radio operator and holds an Extra Class license.

One entry point for amateur radio is the general license, which grants access to high frequency shortwave bands, but there is often a lot of competition among users at these frequencies. The Extra Class license allows operators access to a wider range of band frequencies across the shortwave spectrum, giving them more opportunity to get their signals on the air without potential interference from other operators.

In order to attain the Extra Class license, an operator must pass an exam consisting of 50 multiple choice questions that cover best practices and other technical aspects radio electronics. The official ARRL Extra Class License Manual is the recommended study guide for the course. It includes an in-depth look at all topics covered on the test, as well as a practice exam.
